Dainty Details - Perfect Endings

It's no secret that I have been in love with yellow for some time now. I was doing some research for a client this weekend, building color palettes and inspirations boards, and ran across this gorgeous cake. Loving the architectural lines, the art deco feel and the colors! The infamous Perfect Endings in Napa created this beautiful cake.


Of course, the oh-so talented Anna Kuperberg captured it's beauty, so how could you not fall in love with it for that reason alone? I can totally see the details of this wedding unfolding before me...great pops of yellow detail within the black and white...simply gorgeous.

Gatsby by Day - Sweet Daytime Wedding Details

I will let you in on a little secret. I am a Gilmore Girls fanatic. Huge. I mean, it's a bit gross. I've got all of the seasons on DVD, and watch them waaaaay too often. Why am I sharing all of this? Well, my favorite episode is called "You Jump, I Jump Jack" (season 5, episode 7) and it is based on a secret society that has an event set in what I like to think of as a Gatsby-esque era. All the fun details in this episode are so neato. I tried to find the episode on Hulu and link to it for you all, but sadly, it was not there. But all sorts of other Gilmore Girls episodes are...take a peek!

Anyway, the tie back to weddings is coming....

So, I am also a huge fan of Snippet & Ink and the amazing inspiration boards Kathryn creates. She has such an eye for detail when putting these babies together. She posted one the other day that I have printed out and hung on my personal inspiration pin board in my office because it instantly reminded me of my favorite episode of GG. I can't wait to have a client request a wedding full of summer yellows and a pop of sweet berry. LOVE!

Can't you see the twinkle lights, hear the music hanging on the heat from a warm summer night? And I have the perfect venue in Sonoma - Beltane Ranch - with it's wrap around porches and working cattle ranch. Yes please!

I'm sure there is some plantation in the South that is also begging to have this wedding thrown at it, but I think Beltane would add a California twist to these sweet nuptials.

Summer Sunflower Details

Driving through the central valley yesterday, I saw field after field of sunflowers - their little faces turned up toward the sun basking in every ray. I love how wonderfully tall and lanky they are with such heavy bright yellow heads. They are just happy flowers. So I thought I would take a stab at designing a post around the sunflower as a wedding element. These flowers really work well paired with non-traditional materials such as wicker, metals, leather, wood, and raffia. They are such a fun flower that you can take and shape into so many different wedding visions.

Sunflowers and cowboy boots work so darn well together...

This cake is so pretty, loving the petal details and the ribbon.

I couldn't resist this sweet brooch...

And fabulous scented favors...

The deep brown of this wicker charger shows off the sunflower.

Galvanized tins are another great way to display these guys.

I know these flowers on the invite are dahlias, but they give such a warm sunshine vibe like the sunflower so I had to include them. Plus there are some really funky looking sunflower invites out there...

My Favorites - Vintage Inspired Wedding and Cupcakes

I made two new friends in the wedding blog world over the last few weeks. These gals were very generous with their time in answering some blog questions for me and I am so grateful. I really admire their blogs so I thought I would share with you some of their recent posts.

The first is from Green Wedding Shoes. This is a real wedding she featured yesterday which I just can't get enough of. A vintage backyard wedding with details that are to die for. The doors, the windows, the chairs - oh my! Chandeliers swaying in trees and the color yellow. We all know how I feel about the color yellow. The next post is from The Inspired Bride from earlier this month. It featured these amazing cupcakes with super stylin' edible frosting from Hello Frosting. This is such a great way to personalize your dessert display without huge dollar signs.

Walking on Sunshine - Yellow Wedding Fun

I just can't stop my love affair with all things yellow. I am summertime girl, Spring is nice but bring on the heat. In the quest for great photos I found the above image by Natalie Moser and it made me grin. So forgive me, but I am posting about all sorts of fun yellow finds that make me smile and think there's only a few more months til Summer.

Spring is here! Daffodil Inspired Wedding Details

It must be the spring weather -- I have been obsessed for the past few weeks with the color yellow and lovely spring daffodils! Here are some daffodil inspired details to make any spring wedding shine with hints of lovely yellow-ness.

Baby Shower for the Mommy to "Bee"

I am beginning to think this event planning thing runs in the family. My family threw me a fantastic baby shower with a yellow, white and black bumble bee theme. I thought I would post a few photos from the event, as the ideas that my family carried out with the bee theme are easy to do and turned out fabulous. My mom, step-mom and sister created a beautiful event. I plan on stealing a few of these ideas myself for my next baby shower client. Take a look!













These great bottles were used as bud vases all around the garden, as well as hung from low branches in trees.



















The rentals were provided by Classic Party Rentals. One of the favors was a white fan (cause it was about 102 degrees!) as well as a bee shaped cookie cutter. Here the napkin is tied around the fan with ribbon. The bee cookie cutter is also tied on to create the final touch. The jar of honey at the top of the plate was another fun favor.













Here is a close up of the honey favor. My step-mom made these by finding cute jars, going to Costco for large amounts of honey, decanting them, creating labels and then topping them off with a bee pattern fabric and ribbon.













These cookies are my favorite, especially around the holidays - they make a great Christmas cookie. My mom used the bee cookie cutter to make these Pepparkakor cookies - a mix of ginger and molasses snap cookies. They were sweet treats for the guests on the way home. The cellophane bag is tied together with a yellow ribbon and a then a sugared bee decoration was glued onto the knot of the ribbon.



















The cake was designed by my sister, with help from Kathy's Kreative Kakes in Burlingame. The bakery also used similar sugared bee decorations for the cake.
























Paper parasols - black, yellow and different black and white patterns were scattered in the tree branches as well as throughout the garden to add splashes of color. Market umbrellas had streams of yellow ribbon threaded through their underneath spokes and each chair back had knots of yellow tulle to contrast with the black and white gingham tablecloths.
